There are a lot of reasons why people fail to succeed. Just like everybody I had a lot of plans for myself. Have I been able to achieve all of those? I don’t think so. Just like me, many people have a dream for themselves and goals to achieve but not everyone can achieve their goals, and that too without any idea about why people fail to succeed. When you try to learn about successful people you will also get to learn about their failure, the reasons why people fail to succeed. When you read about the success and failure stories of multiple people you will be able to find some common mistakes or the reasons why people fail to succeed.
Here are the 10 reasons why people fail to succeed in achieving their goals:
#1-Having Vague goals.
One of the major reasons why people fail to achieve their goals is because of having a vague goal. When we ask people about their goals, most of them reply with the answer to getting rich or having a happy life. They don’t have a specific desire or a purpose as if what they want to achieve. This is the major mistake lot of people do while achieving their goals. What if you book a cab and on asking about the destination by the cab driver you respond with multiple destinations or no fixed destination, how can you expect that cab driver would help you to reach your destination. Similarly, your brain is like a cab driver. Tell your brain a fixed goal and purpose and your brain will help you out to find the answers to reach your goals.
#2-Not being consistent enough is the major reason why people fail to succeed.
Let me be clear about this consistent thing. To be consistent doesn’t mean that you need to do the same thing every single day for a large number of hours. No, you will eventually get burned out and later you would not feel like doing the same thing again. To be consistent means to make something your habit and follow it with at most discipline. Take breaks if you want but don’t let that break a routine, discipline, or habit you created.
#3-Focusing on efforts instead of the result.
In the very beginning, we are motivated and energetic by looking at the end result or rewards we will receive after we achieve our goals. But as the days pass by, people start changing their focus from reward towards the efforts or the hard work they need to do in order to achieve their goals. Everything will be difficult in the beginning but this is where consistency and perseverance play an important role. Always motivate yourself to move forward by visualizing the end result. Feel the way you would feel when you would achieve your goals.
#4-Fear of change.
The comfort zone kills the dream. People often have big plans and dreams for themselves but they are actually afraid of changes they need to make. These changes are in terms of their habits or the effort they need to put on to achieve their goals. Most people are very much comfortable with their current lifestyle so they do not try to look for a change. You can’t expect a different outcome if you keeping doing the exact same thing you were doing it for years. Try to change your habits and get out of your comfort zone because great things are at the edge of your comfort zone.
#5-Fear of failure.
One of the reasons why people fail to succeed in achieving their dream is because they fear failure. People focus on what could go wrong instead of focusing on what could go right. Nobody likes to fail but failure is just a part of a journey and it’s never the destination. If you are taking action in order to achieve something, you either succeed or you learn. Failure is for someone who quits. Another reason for the fear of failure is what would people say or what people would think. Look, we are living life for ourselves. We are on this planet with a purpose and we should never care about what people would think. Just believe in yourself, learn new things, and take action.
#6-Inability to take action.
One of the reasons why people fail to succeed is they forget to take the most important step which is to take action. People make a lot of plans for their future or how can they create their dream life. But nothing is easy and free in this world. We all have to pay something or the other to receive the things we want. Everyone knows that to be successful we need to have a plan and later on we have to execute it accordingly. People do the first half of it that is to create the plan but when it comes to taking an action for it, people take a step back. As I have always said that things will be difficult and it may seem impossible at the beginning but you have to take that first step.
#7-Overthinking.
If you only look for the reasons why people fail and do not try to do anything about it then you are actually overthinking a lot and wasting a lot of your time. Overthinking is a habit that is a true waste of time. Overthinking is common and the reason for it can be self-doubt, self-esteem issues, or thinking about other people instead of thinking about their own dreams. People with overthinking habits always over-analyze everything they do. They look for what could go right and what could go wrong and accordingly they take a step forward. Sometimes the only thing to do to overcome any difficulty is to take action but due to overthinking habits, people do quit on their dreams and fail to succeed in achieving their goals.
#8-Habits to pull you down.
You are what you are currently is because of the habits you have built in the past. Around ninety-six percent of people in the UK admit that their most decision is autopilot. People have created certain habits that don’t allow them to grow professionally. For example, staying in a comfort zone, fear of public speaking, or lack of confidence. These situations are all because people never ever try to change their habits. Procrastination is the major habit that people possess which is one of the reasons why people fail to succeed in achieving their goals.
#9-Not setting a time limit.
People have a habit of making 3–10 goals for themselves. According to research people with multiple goals often achieve only 30% of their goals. Having multiple goals is great but focusing on one particular goal at one particular time will be better. Set one goal for yourself and set a time limit for that. Suppose you want to achieve X goal, write it down in your diary as “I want to achieve X goal in 3 months of time”. This will help your brain to focus on that particular goal because you have made it much clear about the thing you want and by when. It may or may not be possible to achieve that goal with that time period but I can assure you that you will be able to achieve more of your goal within that time period.
#10-Multiple goals.
As I discussed above that having multiple goals is great. You know what goals you have to achieve in order to have your dream lifestyle. But when it comes to achieving your goals, focusing on one particular goal will help you to achieve it.
